If you've ever had a client call on a Thursday asking for a fully zoned smart lighting system by Monday morning, you know the feeling: that sinking weight in your chest. Pick Zigbee GU10 / Govee bulbs when:

  • You're retrofitting existing recessed cans with no extra wiring
  • The budget is tight and the client wants to test smart lighting before committing
  • The project is small (one to three rooms) and won't scale
  • Speed is everything – and you already have a hub on site

Bottom line: Both have their place. I've used both. I'll continue to use both. The trick is knowing when to spec each. If you're on the fence, ask yourself: 'Will I be here at 10 PM troubleshooting a ghost node?' That answer usually points you in the right direction.
